Fluoridation of water in the United States began in the mid-20th century. The goal was to reduce cavities in children and prevent chronic dental disease. This was especially true in areas with less access to dental care. And unlike toothbrushing, fluoridation works regardless of a person’s oral hygiene practices.
Initially, fluoridating city water supplies cut children’s cavity rates by up to 70 percent and adults’ by up to 40 percent, according to Scientific America. Today, the rate is 25 percent. This is because fluoride can also be found in toothpaste and store-bought beverages. When fluoride has been removed from water, cavity rates in those areas have increased.
Fluoride is naturally present in the water in many parts of the world. It is not poisonous or a pollutant.

Myth: You need to wash your hair daily.
Truth: Washing your hair daily strips away the oil your scalp produces to keep your hair nourished and moisturized. Washing it daily will only make your scalp produce more oil to compensate.
Myth: Older woman have thinning hair.
Truth: Approximately 95 percent of hair loss is genetic and has nothing to do with age.
Myth: Removing a gray hair causes more to grow.
Truth: Hair turns gray because the pigment cells in the hair follicle are no longer producing color. Plucking a gray hair cannot make more gray hairs grow in its place.
Myth: Natural hair lighting is better than bleach.
Truth: Using the sun to bleach your hair exposes you to UV rays that eventually damage hair and makes it prone to breakage and frizz.
Myth: Cutting your hair makes it grow faster.
Truth: The hair that’s being cut is dead and doesn’t affect the roots.
